How it works
When a payment goes through, the shop asks Ecologi to fund one tree for that order. Wexbury pays Ecologi for each tree. Ecologi bills us once a month and sends the money to the planting projects it works with. It chooses the projects and changes them from time to time. The current ones are listed on Ecologi's site.
A tree shows as pending on our profile until that month's bill is paid. After that it counts as funded. A funded tree is paid for. It is not yet a grown tree, and we cannot promise that any one young tree will survive.
No customer names or details are sent to Ecologi. The trees are listed under Wexbury only.
What we do not claim
Funding a tree does not cancel out the parcel, the packaging or the product. We do not call any order carbon neutral, and we do not plant the trees ourselves. The promise is only this: one tree funded through Ecologi for every order. You can check the count on this page and on our Ecologi profile.
What clearing a forest takes
When a forest is cut and does not grow back, more is lost than the wood.
Animals. A forest is a home. Clear it and the birds, insects and larger animals lose food, cover and the paths they move along. Some live nowhere else.
Water and soil. Roots hold the soil and slow the rain. Without them, water runs off, streams fill with silt and the ground washes away.
People. People who live in and beside a forest lose food, fuel, shade, and sometimes the land itself.
Leaving a standing forest alone comes first. Planting does not bring back the one that was cut. The longer note is on the environment page.
